Preformed Garden Ponds

Preformed garden ponds are solid pond structures that have been molded in the factory using high density polyethylene materials. They come in a variety of sizes and shapes and can be installed directly in the garden. Digging is required for in-ground performed yard ponds whereas out-of-ground ponds can be installed directly.

Steps to Install a Preformed Pond
Selecting the pond area

Have a good look around your backyard and try to find an open spot that receives a good deal of sunlight (for regular fish ponds). Selecting a spot in a high lying area will help in easy pond maintenance. In addition ensure that the spot has good drainage connectivity.

Excavating the Pond

To mark the pond, lay your pond liner on the spot and try to make a rough outline around the edges using chalk dust. You can also make use of an edger or a flat shovel. After that, excavate the marked area by adding two additional inches to the actual depth of the liner. Upon finishing, try and remove rocks, sharp stones and plant roots from the sides and bottom of the excavated area as they may cause damage to the liner making it leak. Compact the base firmly using your shovel or other equipment.

Laying the Performed Liner

Before laying the liner, make sure to rinse it out thoroughly to ensure it is clean. Lower the preformed liner into the excavated portion, after filling up the bottom with sand so that it acts as a bed between the liner and the bottom of the pit. Level your liner in such a manner that at-least some portion of the liner is above the pit. This will ensure that your pond is free from run-off water and sand from your backyard.

Filling the Pond

The space left between the pond sides and the excavated area can be filled with sand or mud. After filling the gap halfway, start to fill the pond with water and backfill simultaneously in such a manner that both processes get completed at approximately the same. This will allow in proper setting of the pond. You can set-up filters, pumps and coping stones once this is over. Empty the water once through the drain and refill the pond before introducing aquatic life.

Adding Final Touches

Finally you can decorate your pond with lighting, fountains, overhead bridges and rocks. Adding a fence around your pond is recommended, especially if your intent to use your backyard for night-out functions.

Preformed garden ponds can help you build a pond with extreme ease and they are long lasting too.
