Algae Control
One of the biggest problems to do with garden ponds is the growth of algae. It is an unattractive substance that causes the water to look filthy and sometimes green. It can grow as a form of scum on the surface of pond water. It can be caused by debris such as leaves falling into the pond and becoming algae. Rain water can flow into the pond carrying debris which increases the chances of algae forming and so this should be prevented as much as possible. There are many ways to prevent and control the growth of algae.
Ponds should be cleaned with a net or pond skimmer regularly to rid it of dirt and debris that causes algae. A pump should be installed, as should a decent water filter. Biological filters and bacteria work together to clean pond water and rid it of algae. Bacteria and enzymes products can be purchased and added to the pond. Planting broad leaved plants in the pond is another option as they can block the pond from sunlight which leaves the algae starved for sunlight thus inhibiting growth.
