Fish food
Garden ponds that are stocked with fish require regular sources of fish food. Although plants provide some food for the fish, man-made pellets may also be required. Some of their nutritional needs can come naturally from the pond but it is important to provide other forms as well. The food should be digested easily to limit waste from the fish, which can increase the amount of algae in a pond.
Pond fish food is usually looks like sticks or pellets that float on top of the pond for a long period of time. It is necessary for it to float and not fall instantly to the bottom of the pond because this will dirty the water. There are many different formulations of food available for the different seasons of the year. The varying temperatures of the water affect the digestive capabilities of the fish. During winter seasons the fish tend to eat less food for example. Providing food specifically designed for certain times of the year makes sure that the fish receive all of the nutrients they need. If pond fish are not fed frequently enough they will eat fish eggs and try to eat stones that weigh down plants.
