They can be easily installed if a flexible liner and underwater pump is used. The style of fountain should depend on the pond size and the surrounding landscape. Various styles of fountains are gentle bubblers, geysers, jet sprays and even floating fountains. Usually fountains need the same type of equipment in order to work correctly. They should have a pump, pipes, a liner, and an electrical outlet with a fault circuit interrupter. If the water pressure is not perfect then a flow control valve may be needed. Filters should be added to the pump to make it last longer and to keep the fountain nozzles clean and free from debris. Fountains are excellent at aerating the pond thus preventing excess algae. Pond fountains are generally made from concrete, limestone, marble or bronze. Fountains made from stone or concrete need special care during cold weather. They need to be winterised using sealer as the cold can crack the fountain. Bronze is a better material to use as it can withstand extreme weather. Wood is also a popular material but it needs to be protected from the water. Ceramics and tile can leak water easily and need to be protected with a waterproofing solution. More terms explained
Maintain the water level in your pond such that they stay in the right limits both in summer and rainy seasons.
Replace pond water in periodical intervals for safety and good health of aquatic life. Clean filter system every so often to keep away clogs and obstructions affecting the water flow. Remove the decayed plants from pond bottom to keep up safety of aquatic lives. Add minimal dechlorinator to lessen chlorination effect in fresh water. Offer proper aeration to the plants to keep up freshness of water, taking care of the aquatic plants with proper fertilizers.
To keep your ponds clean add some helpful bacteria and natural cleaning agents that feed on fish wastes. They help convert ammonia to nitrites further to nitrates that acts as a natural pond filtrating agents. They are absorbed by the aquatic plants to produce oxygen thus forming a nitrogen cycle. This action reduces the phosphorous and organic waste content in pond avoiding algae formation. Pond maintenance may sound to be simple but it requires continuous care to be taken keeping a balance over healthy ecosystems and clean water preventing algae.
