Algae
Garden ponds are currently very popular. However, one of the problems associated with this type of pond is algae. It is important to install the right equipment and perform the correct maintenance on the pond in order to avoid it becoming overrun with algae. The pond should be constructed with a slight slope at the deepest level to make debris removal easier. Care should be taken that rainwater cannot run across the surrounding areas before settling into the pond along with the debris it collected on the way. The pump that is installed should be more than adequate for the size of the pond. The total pond volume that should be pumped varies on the contents of the pond. A water filter should be installed and a pond skimmer is a good idea as it removes most of the debris before it sinks. The types of materials used to construct the pond also have an impact, as those with a higher pH level are more susceptible to algae growth.
Some algae and debris can be removed with a skimmer net or pond vacuum. Adding bacteria and enzyme products to the pond can also help reduce algae growth. Plants that block the sunlight from the pond make sure that the algae is starved for sunlight which inhibits growth. There are many ways to reduce and remove algae growth.
